Journal Descriptions

Journal of Nordic Youth Studies (Nordisk tidsskrift for ungdomsforskning) is an open access, interdisciplinary social science journal. Its aim is to contribute to increased knowledge about youth and young people’s lives in the Nordic countries. The journal’s ambition is to explore overarching questions about young people within a broad thematic scope. We publish, but are not limited to, articles on youth leisure, friendships and family life, school, education and transitions, media use and digital technologies, substance use, crime, violence and abuse, health and well-being, youth culture, citizenship and participation. We also welcome contributions on initiatives and contexts affecting young people, if they are clearly situated within the field of youth research and aligned with the journal’s scope. The journal publishes peer-reviewed scholarly articles—both empirical studies and contributions on theory, concepts, and methodological development—as well as debate pieces, book reviews, and interviews. While the journal maintains an international outlook, its primary empirical focus is on the Nordic region. Articles are published mainly in Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish, with occasional contributions in English. The journal’s target readership includes researchers and students, professionals working with youth-related topics, political and administrative decision-makers, the media, and the broader public.
