Nigerian Journal of Natural Products and Medicine (NJNPM)

Nigerian Journal of Natural Products and Medicine is published by the Nigerian Society of Pharmacognosy, a non profit organisation established in 1982 dedicated to the promotion of Pharmacognosy, Natural Products and Traditional Medicine. It has a current circulation of about 500 to scientists in Nigeria and abroad. The journal is produced once a year and had been in production since 1996. Articles published cover phytomedicine, natural product chemistry and biochemistry, pharmacognosy and traditional medicine, ethnoveterinary medicine and chemistry, clinical studies among others.The journal emphasizes the discovery, isolation, characterization, and biological evaluation of bioactive compounds derived from natural sources, especially medicinal plants used in African traditional medicine. It also supports interdisciplinary research linking natural product chemistry with pharmacological applications, toxicology, and drug development. NJNPM plays an important role in promoting indigenous knowledge systems and integrating them with modern scientific validation methods. It is widely used by researchers in African universities and research institutes working on herbal medicine, drug discovery, and ethnopharmacology. The journal follows a peer-review process to ensure scientific quality and is published annually. It contributes significantly to the documentation and scientific validation of medicinal plants and natural therapeutic agents in Nigeria and other developing regions.
