Nigerian Journal of Hydrological Sciences (NJHS)
Journal Descriptions
Nigerian Journal of Hydrological Sciences publishes original research papers, case studies and critical reviews in all the sub fields of the hydrological sciences including water-based management and policy issues that impact on the environment and economics. These comprise the physical, chemical, biological, stochastic and systems aspects of surface and groundwater hydrology, hydro-meteorology, hydrogeology and eco-hydrology. Social science perspectives on hydrological problems such as resource and ecological economics, environmental sociology, psychology and behavioural science, management and policy analysis are also invited. The scope of the journal includes applied aspects as in agricultural water management, ecosystems management, water resources engineering, water quality, hydropower, watershed and environmental management. Its scope includes surface water hydrology, groundwater studies, flood and drought analysis, watershed management, climate change impacts on water systems, irrigation hydrology, and environmental hydrology. The journal also emphasizes applied research aimed at solving real-world water-related challenges such as flooding, erosion, water scarcity, and sustainable water resource planning. The publication supports interdisciplinary collaboration between hydrologists, civil engineers, geographers, and environmental scientists. It is commonly associated with academic conferences and proceedings organized by NAHS, serving as a key outlet for hydrological research in Nigeria. The journal is typically published in print and online formats and follows a peer-review system to ensure scientific quality and reliability. It contributes significantly to national development by promoting sustainable water management practices and improving understanding of hydrological systems in West Africa.
