Journal Descriptions

New Zealand Geographer is an internationally refereed scholarly journal published on behalf of the New Zealand Geographical Society and produced by Wiley‑Blackwell (Wiley). Since its inception in 1945, the journal has served as a leading forum for advancing geographical knowledge about Aotearoa New Zealand, its landscapes, environments, peoples and processes, as well as broader theoretical and empirical issues relevant to the South Pacific region. The journal invites high‑quality research contributions that address all facets of geography, including physical geography, human geography, cultural landscapes, environmental change, planning and development, indigenous geographies, and geo‑education. Alongside full research papers, it features critical commentaries, debates, short intervening pieces on topical geographical issues, discussions of pedagogy and geographical education, and book reviews that support scholarly discourse across academic and educational communities. New Zealand Geographer is recognised internationally, indexed in major scholarly databases and provides a respected publication outlet for both emerging and established geographers. With an emphasis on rigorous peer review and scholarly relevance, the journal connects regional geographic scholarship to global debates while maintaining its unique focus on the Aotearoa/New Zealand context.
