New Mexico Geology (NMG)
Journal Descriptions
New Mexico Geology is a peer reviewed scientific journal published by the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, a division of the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in the United States. The journal focuses on geological research related to New Mexico and the surrounding southwestern region of North America. It serves professional geologists, earth scientists, researchers, educators, and students by publishing high quality regional geoscience studies. The journal includes original research articles, geological mapping studies, mineral and energy resource investigations, paleontological discoveries, hydrogeology reports, tectonic analyses, volcanic studies, and environmental geology research. It also publishes shorter technical communications and visual contributions in its “Gallery of Geology” section. Initially launched as a printed quarterly publication in 1979, New Mexico Geology transitioned to an open access online format in 2015, making all articles freely accessible to the global scientific community. The journal is especially recognized for promoting locally important geological studies that may not fit broader international geology journals but are valuable for regional scientific understanding and resource management.
