New Cinemas: Journal of Contemporary Film (NC:JCF)
Journal Descriptions
New Cinemas provides a peer-reviewed platform for scholarship that broadens and elaborates our knowledge of late-twentieth century and contemporary cinematic theory and practice. Welcoming approaches that do not take existing conceptual paradigms and canons as given, it anticipates submissions that refresh our understanding of established bodies of work as well as those which tackle practices still in the process of development. New Cinemas publishes original research on cinema from around the world, including Argentina, South Africa, Iran, Germany and Korea, and about a variety of practices, not only the feature film format. We particularly welcome submissions from those close to completing their PhD, Early Career Researchers and practitioners, especially from outside 'Western' spaces, as well as work on film beyond the text (such as festivals, technology and marketing). We also seek to publish research and cutting-edge thought in shorter formats than the traditional academic article.
