Journal Descriptions

The Netherlands Journal of Zoology was a well-established peer reviewed scientific journal dedicated to the study of animal biology. Published from 1967 to 2003, it served as the official journal of the Royal Dutch Zoological Society and was an important platform for disseminating zoological research in Europe and internationally. The journal evolved from the earlier Archives Néerlandaises de Zoologie, continuing a long tradition of zoological scholarship dating back to the nineteenth century. The journal covered a broad spectrum of topics within zoology, including taxonomy, systematics, ecology, ethology, evolutionary biology, and comparative anatomy. It published original research articles, review papers, and short communications focusing on both vertebrate and invertebrate species. Contributions often highlighted ecological interactions, species diversity, and evolutionary processes, making the journal relevant to both academic researchers and applied scientists. Known for its rigorous editorial standards, the journal was indexed in major scientific databases such as Scopus and the Science Citation Index, ensuring wide visibility in the scientific community. In 2004, the journal was rebranded as Animal Biology, reflecting a broader and more modern scope while continuing its legacy of high-quality zoological research.
