Natures Sciences Sociétés (NSS)
Journal Descriptions
Natures Sciences Sociétés is a journal of the NSS-Dialogues association, published with the support of Cemagref, Cirad, CNRS, Ifremer, Inra and IRD. The journal Natures Sciences Sociétés welcomes all original texts (in French or English) dealing with the interactions between societies and their environment, a theme requiring a wide range of disciplines (earth, life and natural sciences, human and social sciences, technical sciences, etc.). Today, scientific knowledge is developing very rapidly. Its applications are multiplying, drawing more and more on natural resources, and going further and further in the artificialization of nature, which raises the question of the sustainability of societies. Understanding the relationship between living beings and their environment means attempting to answer these questions, which generate uncertainty and even concern. Research is directly concerned, whether it is called into question or urged to clarify the paths to take, all the more so as these developments cannot be analyzed without going beyond disciplinary specialization. This calls for epistemological reflection on the disciplines themselves, as well as on the ways in which they relate to each other and to individual, collective and public action. An interdisciplinarity still to be invented. The texts, of various kinds - case studies, summaries, debates - aim to identify live issues in a spirit of dialogue, watchfulness and even controversy, to clarify their statements, while respecting their complexity, on the basis of rigorous scientific information and argumentation.
