Journal Descriptions

Natural Hazards Review was established in 2000 and is published quarterly by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Over more than two decades, it has become a key international outlet for research that integrates multidisciplinary perspectives on natural hazards and disaster resilience. The journal bridges engineering with environmental and social sciences to explore how natural hazards interact with built systems, human communities, and public policy frameworks. Its content includes original research, case studies, review articles, and technical insights that illuminate hazard mechanisms, risk assessment methods, and strategies for reducing vulnerability and losses from hazards such as earthquakes, floods, storms, landslides, and climate‑driven events. By emphasizing both practical and theoretical advances, the journal supports evidence‑based decision‑making by governments, industry stakeholders, emergency management professionals, and researchers. Natural Hazards Review encourages work that connects physical hazard analysis with human impacts — including socioeconomic resilience, community adaptation, infrastructure design, and policy optimization. Its interdisciplinary approach reflects the complex nature of hazard impacts in the twenty‑first century and aims to inform effective mitigation, preparedness, and recovery strategies worldwide.
