Journal Descriptions

Mycotaxon is a long-established international scientific journal specializing in the taxonomy, nomenclature, and systematics of fungi, including lichens. Founded in 1989 by mycologists Richard P. Korf and Grégoire L. Hennebert, the journal was created to provide a faster and more efficient platform for publishing fungal taxonomic research. It focuses primarily on the identification, description, and classification of fungal species, contributing significantly to global mycological biodiversity studies. The journal publishes original research articles, taxonomic revisions, monographs, and nomenclatural notes. All submissions undergo peer review by specialists in fungal biology before acceptance. A key feature of Mycotaxon is its emphasis on rapid publication, historically achieved through camera-ready manuscript submission. Initially a print journal, it now also operates in digital format and has made its entire archive (1974–2024) freely accessible through open access initiatives. The journal releases four issues per year and serves an international audience of mycologists, taxonomists, and biodiversity researchers. It is widely indexed in biological and agricultural databases and remains an important reference source in fungal systematics.
