Methods of Information in Medicine (MIM)
Journal Descriptions
Methods of Information in Medicine is dedicated to the methodological foundations and scientific advances in the discipline of medical and health informatics. The journal publishes original research articles, reviews, editorials, and letters that present novel methods for structuring, integrating, analysing, storing and visualising health information as well as approaches to system design, implementation and evaluation. Central topics include information systems and services, clinical decision support, patient and consumer e‑services, disease surveillance, data standards, and methodological frameworks that address practical clinical or public health needs. The scope excludes purely epidemiologic studies or those focused solely on bioinformatics or imaging informatics when better served elsewhere, emphasizing methodological innovation and scientific rigor. The journal is indexed in key databases including MEDLINE/PubMed, Science Citation Index Expanded, Scopus, EMBASE/Excerpta Medica, and others, reflecting its longstanding influence in biomedical informatics research since its inception in 1962. Its continued publication supports global scientific communication on how best to harness and evaluate information and knowledge processes in healthcare and research.
