Methodist History (MH)
Journal Descriptions
Methodist History is the official historical journal of The United Methodist Church and is published by the General Commission on Archives and History of The United Methodist Church. Since 1962, the year of its inception, it has published articles, book reviews, pictures and illustrations, news, and other information about the history of the Wesleyan and Methodist heritage. By preserving and promoting the past, the General Commission on Archives and History helps the UMC engage the present and envision the future. GCAH serves as the denomination’s storytellers and history detectives. As the keepers of the church’s records, GCAH provides historical context and insight to help denominational leader- ship at all levels in the visioning, planning, and programming of the UMC. Methodist History also partners with the Historical Society of The United Methodist Church which promotes interest in the study, preservation, and dissemination of the history and heritage of The United Methodist Church and its antecedents. It works to enlist the support and cooperation of commission on archives and history (or equivalent) at the annual conference, jurisdictional conference, and general Church levels as well as other interested agencies and organizations in the promotion of the historical interests of the Church. The society is financially self-supporting through dues and other sources, except for such services as may be provided by the General Conference Commission on Archives and History.
