Metal Progress (MP)

Metal Progress was a prominent industrial and technical journal dedicated to metallurgy, metalworking technologies, and materials engineering. Established in 1969 by the American Society for Metals, the journal became one of the leading professional publications covering developments in metal production, processing, heat treatment, fabrication, and industrial manufacturing. It served engineers, metallurgists, plant managers, researchers, and manufacturing professionals involved in the metal and materials industries. The journal published technical articles, industrial case studies, research reports, equipment reviews, and practical engineering guidance related to ferrous and nonferrous metals. Major topics included steel production, alloy development, machining, welding, casting, corrosion control, quality testing, and industrial process optimization. Metal Progress also highlighted emerging technologies and innovations shaping manufacturing and materials science during the twentieth century. Because of its strong industrial orientation, the journal became widely used in factories, engineering institutions, and research laboratories. It contributed significantly to advancing modern metallurgical engineering practices and promoting technical knowledge exchange between academia and industry. In 1986, Metal Progress evolved into Advanced Materials & Processes, reflecting the expanding scope of modern materials science beyond traditional metallurgy. Despite its discontinuation under the original title, Metal Progress remains historically important in engineering and industrial research literature.
