The journal's purpose is to promote research and discussion in the field of historical archaeology, both within and between commissioned archaeology, museums, administration and universities in the Nordic countries and beyond. The journal also has a website where it is currently possible to apply for membership and browse through old issues of META since 1979, see http://histark.se/ The journal aims to promote historical-archaeological research and debate within the entire historical-archaeological field, both within and between commissioned archaeology, museums, administration and research institutions. The definition of historical archaeology is broad and the journal aims to bring together research and other activities. Although the journal is primarily focused on the Nordic region and Northern Europe, its topics and themes also extend beyond these geographical and chronological boundaries. The journal focuses on new findings, debate and discussion of both medieval and historical archaeological research and activities.
