Mediterranean Studies is an international, peer-reviewed journal focusing on the Mediterranean region in all aspects and disciplines. The journal’s interdisciplinary approach is particularly concerned with the ideas and ideals of Mediterranean cultures from antiquity to the present and the influence of these ideas beyond the region’s geographical boundaries. Such varied and rich contributions make for vibrant conversations across several disciplines. Mediterranean Studies is the official publication of the Mediterranean Studies Association. The journal focuses on the Mediterranean region through interdisciplinary scholarship that is concerned with the ideas and ideals of Mediterranean cultures from antiquity to the present, and the influence of these ideas beyond the region’s geographical boundaries. The journal’s broad chronological time frame and disciplinary range produce the rich scholarly exchanges that are the goal of the Mediterranean Studies Association. Mediterranean Studies sponsors the Annual Frank Dutra Award of $500 for the article chosen by the Dutra Committee as the outstanding article published in the journal in the most recent calendar year. The award honors the legacy of Dr. Frank A. Dutra, a founding member of the MSA, and professor of history at the University of California at Santa Barbara, whose high standards for interdisciplinary scholarship have guided the selection of articles for publication in Mediterranean Studies. The journal is published twice a year by Penn State Press. Articles are selected for publication through double blind peer reviews.
