Mediterranean Historical Review (MHR)
Journal Descriptions
Since its foundation in 1986, the Mediterranean Historical Review has pioneered the steadily growing field of international scholarship focusing on the Mediterranean as a vast and complex hub of human interaction and relations, both geographically and historically. The journal seeks contributions on topics that transcend any particular locale or conventional periodization, and which explore the intricate mesh of contacts, relations, and influences within the Mediterranean context. Chronologically, MHR often aims to integrate various problems in the ancient, medieval, early modern and contemporary history of the Mediterranean basin. Our disciplinary and topical horizons are historically oriented, covering a broad spectrum that ranges from economics to intellectual and inter-religious exchanges, slavery, navigation, early shipping insurance, literature and music, and even climate. The journal occasionally publishes documents of special interest, accompanied by a commentary.
