Materials Research Express (MRX) is a fully open access, multidisciplinary scientific journal published by IOP Publishing that focuses on high‑quality experimental and theoretical research across all areas of materials science and engineering. Launched in 2014, MRX publishes new research on the design, synthesis, characterization, properties, modelling and applications of materials at all length scales, from atomic‑level structures to engineered systems, with broad relevance to physical sciences, engineering, chemistry, and applied technologies. The journal welcomes articles in diverse fields including biomaterials, nanomaterials and nanostructures, carbon and 2D materials, electronic and semiconducting materials, magnetic materials, metals and alloys, photonic and metamaterials, polymers and soft matter, and surfaces/interfaces. It employs a fast‑track peer‑review process aimed at rapid dissemination and accessibility of research findings, with articles published under Creative Commons licences to maximize global accessibility and reuse.
