Journal Descriptions

Since 1985, La contemporaine, the new name of the Bibliothèque de documentation internationale contemporaine, has published the journal Matériaux pour l'histoire de notre temps, which it co-publishes with the Association de ses amis. Its title recalls both the establishment's contemporaryist vocation and the centrality of the notion of source, understood as all documentary materials enabling historians to do their work. Each issue is organized around a thematic dossier relating to our international collections, or to a multidisciplinary approach to different sources. The journal also publishes articles by young researchers working on the basis of the establishment's resources, as well as a column on the latest developments in the research programs with which it is associated. Since 1985, this journal has published articles written by specialists dealing with the main areas covered by the Bibliothèque de documentation internationale contemporaine (BDIC) which specializes in 20th- to 21st-century contemporary history: world wars and conflicts, international relations, decolonization and migration, and social history.
