Marine Mammal Science (MMS)
Journal Descriptions
Marine Mammal Science is the flagship scientific journal of the Society for Marine Mammalogy and one of the foremost international outlets for peer-reviewed research on marine mammals. Since its inception in 1985, the journal has published high-quality research originating from field observations, laboratory studies, theoretical analyses, and conservation science. It covers a broad range of topics including form and function, evolutionary adaptations, systematics, physiology and biochemistry of marine mammals, as well as their behavior, population dynamics, life history traits, genetic diversity, ecological interactions, and conservation challenges. With a quarterly publication schedule, the journal provides timely dissemination of important scientific findings that advance understanding of marine mammal biology and support evidence-based management and conservation efforts worldwide. Contributions span taxa such as whales, dolphins, seals, sea lions, manatees, and other marine mammals, addressing both fundamental science and applied research in the face of environmental changes and human impacts. Marine Mammal Science is widely read by researchers, resource managers, and policymakers engaged in marine ecology, conservation biology, and wildlife management.
