Journal Descriptions

Created in 2004, Marges was originally an initiative of young researchers and doctoral students in the visual arts at Paris 8 University. The aim was to create a distribution space for the texts of novice researchers, while training them in research through the animation of a scientific journal. Initially, the journal was produced by an association of doctoral students, with the support of the EA 4010 host team and the Fine Arts Department. Although it attracted considerable local support - and contributed in its own way to EA 4010's recognition during the AERES evaluation visits - the journal was nevertheless not widely distributed outside Paris 8 and doctoral student circles. This led to the organization of thematic calls for papers and study days aimed at the wider research community in France. The thematic issues of Marges (from number 7 onwards) have been an opportunity to gradually disseminate the journal to the widest possible range of French academics - including established researchers. Initially, this involved artistic disciplines (aesthetics, art history, visual arts, cinema, dance, literature, etc.), then researchers from other disciplines with an interest in artistic issues (sociology, communication sciences, political science, law, etc.). As a result, the proposals received and published have been increasingly varied, both in terms of disciplinary fields and university affiliations. Today, the journal publishes works by both established foreign researchers and young researchers from Paris 8. Photo credit must be provided.
