Internationally renowned, it is the most authoritative journal of Italian literature, successfully combining philological and exegetical rigor with an attention to innovation. Throughout its history, it has hosted the most significant voices from various international traditions of studies on Italian civilization, exploring methodological debates and placing Italian literature within the tradition of Romance and Comparative Studies. Its contribution to critical and bibliographic information is extensive and timely. The journal is complemented by two series, "Biblioteca di Lettere Italiane" and "Saggi di Lettere Italiane." A quarterly journal, founded in 1949, it remained a quarterly until 2015. Formerly edited by Vittore Branca and Giovanni Getto, it is edited by the Institutes of Italian Literature of the Universities of Padua and Turin.
