Journal Descriptions

This journal explores the local, national, transnational, and hemispheric realities that influence the Latina/x/o presence in the United States (as well as elsewhere in the diaspora). Latino Studies presents an international research agenda that builds bridges between the academic and non-academic worlds, and promotes mutual learning and collaboration among all the Latino national groups. The journal also offers many book and media reviews, which focus the view of scholarship on the experience of Latina/x/o people in the United States. Another important feature of the journal is the páginas recuperadas section. These 'recovered pages' cast a scholarly spotlight on historically significant achievements by individuals, and pivotal events in Latino culture in the United States. Latino Studies has established itself as the leading, international peer-reviewed journal for advancing interdisciplinary scholarship about the lived experience and struggles of Latina/x/os for equality, representation, and social justice. Sustaining the tradition of activist scholarship of the founders of Chicano Studies and Puerto Rican Studies, the journal critically engages the study of the local, national, transnational, and hemispheric realities that continue to influence the Latina/x/o presence in the United States as well as elsewhere in the diaspora. It is committed to developing a new transnational research agenda that bridges the academic and non-academic worlds and fosters mutual learning and collaboration among all the Latino national groups. Latino Studies is guided by a mission of mentoring junior scholars so that their work is honed and nurtured in order to reach a broad audience. Feedback from the Editorial Board is designed to help strengthen each submission in preparation for external review. Latino Studies brings a blend of scholarly rigor and human dignity to the experience and struggles of Latina/x/o people for equality, representation, and social justice.
