Langage et Société (L&S)

Language and Society was founded in 1977 by a collective of young researchers under the direction of Pierre Achard. Her field is the study of language, languages, and discourses as embodied, historically and socially situated phenomena. She disseminates knowledge in sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, linguistic anthropology, and the analysis of verbal and multimodal interactions. The journal has contributed to the creation and international development of sociolinguistics and discourse analysis. Language & Society publishes articles from different disciplines, methodologies, and theories. Their common point is an interest in the complexity of social situations in which the exercise of language (written, oral, multimodal) is involved: multilingual urban situations, management of linguistic and interactional variation, forms and uses of language at work, categorization practices related to gender and sexuality, linguistic processes of racial exclusion, etc. Language and Society has gained an international audience, both through its authors, more than half of whom are foreign, and through its readers, who are spread across the globe. The journal operates collectively thanks to an editorial board that meets four times a year and has a reading committee. Each issue offers different sections: a thematic dossier, miscellaneous issues, debates, reports, and reviews. It is available in print and electronic formats (CAIRN). The journal is published three times a year.
