Lagos Notes and Records is an annual, interdisciplinary journal of the humanities. It is devoted to the publication of well-researched articles in all the subjects in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Law. In addition to original articles, the journal publishes review articles, brief accounts of work in progress, notes and comments on issues arising out of recent publications.The journal publishes original research articles, archival studies, historiographical essays, and book reviews focusing primarily on Nigerian, West African, and African history. It also covers broader themes such as colonial administration, precolonial societies, oral traditions, political transformations, economic history, and cultural heritage. Over the decades, Lagos Notes and Records has served as an important platform for historians and researchers to document and analyze African historical experiences from indigenous and global perspectives. It contributes significantly to the preservation of historical knowledge and encourages scholarly debate on Africa’s past and its contemporary implications. The editorial process is managed by academic staff within the University of Lagos, with rotating editors from the Department of History. Although publication frequency has varied over time, the journal remains a respected source in African historiography and historical research.
