La Parola del Passato (LPDP)

"La Parola del Passato," founded in 1946 by Giovanni Pugliese Carratelli with publisher Gaetano Macchiaroli, has preserved intact, throughout its seventy years, the scientific rigor and seriousness of purpose evident from its earliest issues, and a scholarly perspective in which investigation of the ancient world is inseparable from the desire to interpret the present. From the beginning, the journal, which Benedetto Croce called "among the most valuable founded in Italy after the war," has had an interdisciplinary nature, welcoming articles and notes on topics in ancient history, philology, literature and linguistics, archaeology, and ancient art history. Its thematic and temporal scope extends from the Greco-Roman world to the Near and Middle East, and from the civilizations of the Bronze Age to those of the Classical, Late Antiquity, and Byzantine periods. He has authored numerous monographic issues and volumes on "Ancient Naples," "Archaic Latium and the Greek World," "Velia and the Phocaeans in the West," ancient Persia, archaic Greece, the Hurrian civilization, and many others that have marked the history of ancient world studies. Among his columns, the one dedicated to "Texts and Monuments" stands out, often featuring inscriptions and other previously unpublished documents. Since 2015, "La Parola del Passato," currently edited by Pia de Fidio, Valeria Gigante Lanzara, and Antonio Rigo, has continued to be published by Olschki Publishing House. It is published biannually. Founded by Giovanni Pugliese Carratelli and Gaetano Macchiaroli.
