Journalism & Mass Communication Educator (JMCE)
Journal Descriptions
Journalism & Mass Communication Educator (JMCE) is one of the longest‑running and most respected journals dedicated to the scholarship and practice of journalism and mass communication education. First established in 1958, the journal serves as a scholarly forum for educators, researchers, and practitioners to share research, insights, and innovations that enhance how journalism and communication are taught and understood. Published quarterly by SAGE Publications on behalf of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), JMCE publishes a range of content including original research articles, case studies, classroom activities, curriculum evaluations, reviews of teaching resources, and thought pieces on trends impacting the discipline. Its scope covers pedagogical strategies, emerging technologies in media education, assessment and evaluation practices, diversity and inclusion in curricula, and the evolution of professional competencies needed in rapidly changing media environments. The journal’s articles are grounded in both theory and practice, encouraging evidence‑based teaching approaches and fostering scholarly dialogue about improving instruction at both secondary and collegiate levels. JMCE’s audience includes professors, instructors, program administrators, and graduate students who seek to advance excellence in teaching journalism, mass communication, public relations, advertising, and media studies globally. Indexed in major academic databases such as Scopus and ERIC, JMCE contributes significantly to the academic literature on communication pedagogy and continues to shape how future media professionals are educated.
