Journal Descriptions

The Journal of Vestibular Research: Equilibrium & Orientation is a peer-reviewed international scientific journal dedicated to the publication of high-quality research on the vestibular system and balance physiology. Its scope covers both experimental and clinical studies involving a wide spectrum of topics, including the neurophysiology of balance, anatomy and function of vestibular and related neural pathways, human performance in varied environments, psychophysics of spatial orientation, motion and space sickness, balance disorders, and vestibular rehabilitation. Launched around 1990/1991, the journal has grown into a respected platform for scientists and clinicians interested in understanding the complexities of vestibular function and dysfunction. It publishes original research, observational and experimental studies, review articles, theoretical papers, and letters to the editor. The multidisciplinary content bridges basic laboratory research with clinical applications — helping clinicians in otolaryngology, neurology, physical therapy, audiology, and rehabilitation translate findings into better patient care. The journal also serves as the official journal of the Bárány Society, a leading international organization focused on vestibular research and education. Through this partnership, it often features consensus documents and standards, such as the International Classification of Vestibular Disorders, supporting evidence-based approaches to diagnosis and treatment. Indexed widely in major scientific databases including PubMed/MEDLINE, PubMed Central, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Web of Science (Science Citation Index Expanded), the journal contributes significantly to advancing knowledge in vestibular science and related clinical practices.
