Journal Descriptions

The Journal of Vegetation Science is a peer‑reviewed scientific journal focusing on plant community ecology and the macroecology of vegetation. It aims to publish research that advances concepts, methods, and theoretical understanding in vegetation science, especially studies that identify general patterns, test ecological theory, or develop innovative approaches in the study of vegetation. The journal covers a broad range of topics including community structure (such as plant functional types and community assembly), species diversity and composition, spatial patterns spanning plant geography and landscape ecology, temporal dynamics including demography and palaeoecology, and ecological processes such as ecophysiology. By providing a platform for high‑quality research from an international community of scientists, this journal contributes to deepening our understanding of how plant communities are structured, how they change over time, and how they interact with environmental and biotic factors. It is published for the International Association for Vegetation Science by Wiley‑Blackwell and has been in continuous publication since its launch in 1990. Articles often have a strong theoretical or methodological component while maintaining relevance to a broad readership in ecology and plant sciences.
