The Journal of Tropical Forestry (JTF), the oldest forestry journal in the central India, started its publication in the year 1985.It is a publication of the Society of Tropical Forestry Scientists (STFS) Jabalpur. JTF is a quarterly Journal devoted to forestry research and development in tropical countries. The JTF was the brain child of Prof. R. Chakravarti, Prof. G.P. Mishra and Dr. Ram Prasad who were dedicated to the advancement of forestry science. Credit for the successful uninterrupted publication of the Journal for more than 32 years by now also goes to the untiring efforts of Dr. P.K. Shukla, Shri G.P Date, Dr. R.K. Pandey, Late. J.L. Shrivastav and Dr. Pratibha Bhatnagar. Dr. P. K. Shukla has been editing the Journal spanning its entire history except for brief periods when he had been posted elsewhere. Research articles, policy papers, brief communications and book reviews on forestry, environment, wildlife and other related disciplines such as agroforestry, social forestry, ecology, range land management, non-timber forest products, watershed management, forest based livelihoods, climate change, biodiversity, forest pathology, forest entomology, forest economics, Silviculture etc. are published in the Journal. The Journal has wide circulation and readership in India and abroad, especially in SAARC countries. The current (2016) NAAS score of the Journal is 4.16.
