Journal of the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society (JMBRAS)
Journal Descriptions
JMBRAS is published twice yearly, in June and December, and members of the Society receive copies as part of their membership. The journal, which is indexed in SCOPUS, features scholarly research, articles of general interest, and book reviews. Current issues are available online in participating university libraries through Project Muse, part of John Hopkins University Press. Universities can also subscribe to the online version through the Project Muse Single Title program. Past issues, going back to the inaugural issue of JMBRAS’ predecessor, the Journal of the Straits Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society (1878), are available through JSTOR. The journal’s primary focus is the Malay Peninsula, Singapore, Borneo, and Sumatra but it also covers the broader Malay world and diasporic communities within it. We publish articles on a broad range of subjects, including anthropology and sociology, archaeology, architecture, arts and crafts, culture and fine arts, ecology and the natural world, history, and heritage. The journal seeks material that has enduring value and does not publish articles on topics that will fall out of date quickly, such as current affairs or contemporary politics. Authors interested in submitting a manuscript for possible publication should first read the JMBRAS Guidelines for Authors, (please see the Quick Links section in the footer of any page). Enquiries via email may be addressed to editor.jmbras@mbras.org.my and manuscripts may be sent using the JMBRAS Manuscript Submission Form, available in the Quick Links section in the footer of any page. Submissions should be in English (UK) and must be unpublished (whether in English or any other language) and not under consideration elsewhere.
