Journal of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JJOA)
Journal Descriptions
The Journal of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association is the official scientific publication of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA), one of the most established professional medical organizations in Japan. The journal began in 1926 and has played a major role in documenting the development of orthopaedic science in Japan over nearly a century. The journal primarily publishes research related to clinical and experimental orthopaedics, including bone and joint disorders, trauma surgery, musculoskeletal diseases, spinal disorders, sports injuries, and rehabilitation medicine. It includes original research articles, case reports, meeting proceedings, and clinical studies contributed by orthopaedic specialists. Historically, the journal has served as a key national platform for sharing advances in surgical techniques, diagnostic methods, and treatment outcomes in orthopaedics. Over time, parts of its publication history evolved into the internationally recognized Journal of Orthopaedic Science, which is now the main English-language successor journal published on behalf of the association. The journal has contributed significantly to the global orthopaedic literature by bridging Japanese clinical research with international medical communities. It remains an important archival source for historical orthopaedic studies and the development of musculoskeletal medicine in Japan.
