Journal Descriptions

The Journal of the American Auditory Society was a specialized peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to audiology and hearing research. Published in the United States between 1978 and 1979, the journal served as the official publication of the American Auditory Society and provided an academic platform for clinicians, audiologists, researchers, and hearing scientists. Its primary focus was the study of hearing disorders, auditory physiology, diagnostic audiology, and clinical management of hearing impairment. The journal published original research articles, clinical studies, technical reports, and professional discussions related to hearing science and auditory healthcare. Topics included hearing assessment techniques, auditory pathology, speech perception, hearing aids, cochlear mechanisms, and rehabilitation methods for patients with hearing loss. It also contributed to the growing development of audiology as an independent healthcare and research discipline during the late twentieth century. In 1980, the journal evolved into Ear and Hearing, which expanded its international scope and became one of the leading journals in audiology and otology research. Although the original title had a short publication history, it played an important role in advancing scientific communication within the hearing research community and helped establish standards for clinical audiology publications.
