Journal Descriptions

The Journal of School Leadership (JSL) is a longstanding peer-reviewed academic journal established in 1991, dedicated to advancing research and practice in educational leadership and school administration. Published bimonthly by SAGE Publications, JSL serves as a premier venue for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to engage with rigorous research that deepens understanding of leadership within diverse educational contexts. The journal welcomes a broad range of methodological and theoretical approaches, including qualitative, quantitative, empirical, conceptual, and interdisciplinary studies, all aimed at informing and improving leadership practice in schools and school systems. Its scope includes traditional administrative leadership roles as well as emerging leadership paradigms involving teachers, students, parents, and community members as co-creators of educational leadership knowledge. The journal emphasizes research that elucidates the complex relationships between leadership and student learning, curriculum and instruction, equity and justice, organizational change, accountability, professional development, and the use of technology in schools. With its international authorship and readership, JSL contributes to global conversations about effective leadership for school improvement and educational reform. The journal is indexed in major academic databases and continues to influence both theory and practice in educational leadership research.
