Journal Descriptions

The Journal of Religious Gerontology was a peer-reviewed academic journal that focused on the intersection of religion, spirituality, and aging. Published by Haworth Press in the United States, the journal explored how religious beliefs, spiritual practices, and faith-based support systems influence the physical, psychological, and social well-being of older adults. The journal provided a scholarly platform for researchers, gerontologists, sociologists, theologians, psychologists, and healthcare professionals interested in aging populations. It published empirical studies, theoretical discussions, and applied research addressing topics such as spiritual care for the elderly, pastoral counseling, end-of-life decision-making, coping mechanisms in aging, and the role of religious communities in supporting older individuals. A key emphasis of the journal was understanding how spirituality contributes to quality of life in later years, especially in relation to mental health, loneliness, caregiving, and institutional care settings. It also highlighted cultural and denominational differences in aging experiences across diverse populations. Although the journal was discontinued in the early 2000s, its contributions remain relevant in gerontology and religious studies research. Its legacy continues through modern interdisciplinary journals that integrate spirituality, health sciences, and aging studies to address the holistic needs of elderly populations in contemporary society.
