Journal Descriptions

The Journal of Prevention and Health Promotion (JPHP) is a modern, quarterly, peer‑reviewed scholarly journal that emerged in 2020 to provide a dedicated platform for research and practice in prevention science and health promotion. Published by SAGE Publications in partnership with the American Psychological Association’s Society of Counseling Psychology (Division 17) and its Prevention Section, JPHP addresses the complex determinants of health and wellness across the lifespan. The journal’s mission is to advance interdisciplinary knowledge that improves our understanding of how preventive strategies and health promotion interventions can mitigate risk, strengthen protective factors, and enhance well‑being in diverse populations. Contributions span empirical investigations, theoretical explorations, and critical discussions related to behavioral change, public policy, systems‑level approaches, and community‑based prevention efforts. Beyond traditional health outcomes, JPHP places emphasis on equity, inclusion, and social justice—seeking to highlight how structural, environmental, and social determinants intersect with prevention research and practice. Designed for researchers, educators, clinicians, and policymakers, the journal also serves as a bridge between academic evidence and applied health promotion initiatives. With its quarterly publication rhythm, JPHP provides a steady stream of high‑impact scholarship that shapes contemporary thinking in prevention science and encourages innovation in health promotion strategies globally.
