Journal of Pastoral Care & Counseling (JPCC)
Journal Descriptions
The Journal of Pastoral Care & Counseling is a respected, peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated to advancing knowledge and professional practice in pastoral care, spiritual care, counseling, and psychotherapy. Founded in 1947, it has been continuously published for more than 75 years and serves as a leading forum for rigorous inquiry and reflective writing that informs both academic work and practical application. The journal publishes research studies, evidence-based reports, case studies, theological reflection, narrative and qualitative inquiries, and theoretical essays exploring the intersections of spirituality, health, psychology, and community care. JPC&C’s scope includes the study and practice of clinical pastoral education, restorative care, chaplaincy, interfaith pastoral work, trauma response, grief and loss, and ethical issues in counseling and spiritual care. It aims to deepen understanding of how caregiving practices support emotional, spiritual, and existential well-being in diverse contexts — including hospitals, mental health facilities, congregations, and community settings. Articles often integrate interdisciplinary perspectives from theology, psychology, sociology, health care, and education, enriching dialogue among researchers, clinicians, educators, and spiritual care practitioners. By bridging scholarship and practice, the journal nurtures compassionate, evidence-informed approaches that enhance both personal and community resilience and contribute to the ongoing development of pastoral care as a mature, multidisciplinary professional field.
