Journal of Optics A: Pure and Applied Optics (JO A:PAO)

Journal of Optics A: Pure and Applied Optics was an internationally peer‑reviewed scientific journal devoted to modern and classical optics research. Published monthly by IOP Publishing Ltd. on behalf of the European Optical Society, the journal served as a leading forum for original research in optical science, spanning both fundamental and practical dimensions of optics. Its scope included theoretical studies and experimental investigations across diverse topics such as light propagation and scattering, optical materials, diffraction and imaging phenomena, laser physics, photonics and waveguides, optical communication systems, optical instrumentation, and nonlinear optical effects. The journal aimed to highlight research that both deepened understanding of optical phenomena and supported technological advances in optical systems and devices. As part of the broader Journal of Optics family, Optics A maintained rigorous peer review standards and welcomed contributions from researchers worldwide. After a decade of publication (1999–2009), its content and mission were integrated into the unified Journal of Optics (launched in 2010), which continues the legacy of publishing high‑impact optics studies. During its run, Journal of Optics A helped define trends in classical and applied optics and contributed substantially to the global optics literature.
