Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development (JMCD)
Journal Descriptions
The Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development is a peer-reviewed academic journal that has been published since 1972, originally under the name Journal of Non-White Concerns in Personnel and Guidance. It is the flagship scholarly outlet of the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD), a division of the American Counseling Association (ACA), and is published quarterly by Wiley-Blackwell. The journal serves as an international forum for research and scholarship on multiculturalism, ethnic diversity, and inclusivity in counseling and human development. Its scope encompasses empirical research, theoretical works, conceptual analyses, and program evaluations that center on culturally diverse populations and the complexities of counseling practice across cultural contexts. With article topics ranging from multicultural counseling competencies and social justice frameworks to culturally responsive interventions and policy implications, the journal promotes culturally informed practice and contributes to the advancement of the counseling profession in a diverse world. In addition to addressing race and ethnicity, the journal explores intersections of culture with gender, language, disability, and other social determinants of wellbeing. As a quarterly publication, it is accessible through ACA membership or institutional subscription and seeks to influence both scholarship and practice in multicultural counseling globally.
