Journal Descriptions

Journal of Librarianship and Information Science (JOLIS) is one of the longest-running academic journals in the field of library and information science, first published in 1969 and continually in circulation to the present day. Originally launched as the Journal of Librarianship, it adopted its current name in 1991 to reflect the expanding focus on both library practice and information science research. JOLIS is published quarterly by SAGE Publications, one of the world’s leading academic publishers. The journal emphasizes high-quality, peer-reviewed research that advances theory, methodology, and practice in librarianship and information science. It includes empirical studies, conceptual frameworks, reviews of significant developments, and critical discussions on issues central to the profession, such as information literacy, digital technologies, user services, knowledge management, and the evolving roles of libraries in society. Serving an international readership, JOLIS provides a platform for scholars and practitioners to share insights that shape information service delivery, organizational strategies, and the education of future library and information professionals. The journal is recognized globally, indexed in major databases such as Scopus and the Social Sciences Citation Index, and upholds ethical publication standards as a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
