The Journal of Jewish Studies, published by the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies, is an international academic journal founded in 1948 for the promotion of research into all aspects of Jewish studies. Owned by the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies since 1976, the Journal has become one of the leading forums in the world for new findings and discussions of Jewish history, literature and religion from Biblical times to the present day. A large Reviews section and a list of Books Received keep readers in touch with recent publications. The Journal appears twice a year, once in spring and once in autumn. The Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies, as publisher of the Journal of Jewish Studies, holds exclusive copyright whereby no part of this publication may be reproduced, translated, stored in a retrieval system, or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording or otherwise, without prior written permission of the publisher, except for the purpose of research or private study, or criticism or review. The Journal of Jewish Studies is an internationally renowned, peer-reviewed academic journal for the promotion of research into all aspects of Jewish studies and the leading forum in the world for new findings and discussions of Jewish history, literature and culture from Biblical times to the present day. Founded in 1948, the journal was conceived soon after the war by the Society for Jewish Study based in London. Its first volume appeared in 1949. Publication of the second volume and administrative responsibilities were transferred in 1951 to Jewish Chronicle Publications, London. In 1976, ownership was taken over by the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies.
