Journal of Intellectual Disability Research (JIDR)
Journal Descriptions
The Journal of Intellectual Disability Research is a peer‑reviewed international scientific journal devoted to rigorous research on intellectual disability (ID)—a lifelong developmental condition characterized by significant limitations in intellectual functioning and adaptive behaviour originating before adulthood. Established in 1997, the journal provides an interdisciplinary platform for original research articles, review papers, clinical reports, and methodological studies that advance understanding of ID across the lifespan. The journal’s scope spans biological, psychological, social, educational, clinical, and health services research, highlighting evidence that informs policy, practice, and support systems for people with intellectual disabilities and their families. Topics commonly published include epidemiological studies on prevalence and risk factors; assessments and interventions to improve communication, cognition, and adaptive skills; research on comorbid health conditions and associated mental health challenges; evaluation of inclusive educational practices; and analysis of social determinants impacting quality of life. It also features contributions that address disability rights, ethical considerations, and frameworks for community living and participation. As a monthly publication, the journal ensures timely dissemination of multidisciplinary research important to clinicians, educators, researchers, policymakers, and advocacy groups worldwide. Articles are indexed in major databases including Web of Science and Scopus.
