Journal of Inherited Metabolic Disease (JIMD)
Journal Descriptions
The Journal of Inherited Metabolic Disease (often abbreviated JIMD) is a leading peer‑reviewed scientific and medical journal specializing in research on inherited metabolic disorders—a diverse group of genetic conditions that disrupt normal metabolism and often manifest early in life. Established in 1978, JIMD serves as the official journal of the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (SSIEM) and provides an international platform for original research, clinical studies, reviews, and methodological advances aimed at understanding and treating metabolic diseases. The journal’s scope encompasses clinical, biochemical, genetic, experimental, epidemiological, ethical, counseling, and translational aspects of inborn errors of metabolism in humans and higher animals. Articles often address topics such as enzymatic defects, diagnostic biomarkers, neonatal screening, genotype–phenotype correlations, therapeutic strategies including dietary and pharmacological interventions, and long‑term outcomes of affected individuals. In addition to original research, JIMD publishes reviews of significant developments, consensus guidelines, and short reports from symposia and scientific meetings. As a bimonthly publication with global authorship and readership, the journal plays a central role in shaping both clinical practice and research priorities in metabolic medicine and genetics, fostering collaboration across disciplines to improve care and quality of life for patients with inherited metabolic conditions.
