Journal Descriptions

The Journal of Humanistic Psychology (JHP) is a peer-reviewed academic journal that has been continuously published since 1961 and is now one of the flagship publications in the field of humanistic and existential psychology. Rooted in the tradition started by leaders like Abraham Maslow and Anthony J. Sutich, JHP provides an interdisciplinary forum for scholarship that emphasizes personal experience, meaning, growth, community, creativity, and the human spirit. Published six times a year, the journal includes theoretical papers, empirical research, experiential reports, personal essays, and human science studies that explore consciousness, authenticity, self-actualization, interpersonal encounters, holistic healing, and human potential. Boundaries of psychology are extended through humanistic analyses of culture, society, therapy, education, conflicts, and ethical issues. Articles often examine existential themes, community building, creativity, values, and philosophical questions central to human psychological experience. With an audience of researchers, clinicians, educators, and practitioners interested in humanistic and human science approaches, JHP champions diverse voices and perspectives. It also contains special features, critical debates, and in-depth explorations on topics like self-transcendence, human science methodology, and the role of psychology in social change
