The Journal of Hospital Librarianship focuses on issues that are of vital interest and concern to hospital librarians. The journal provides a forum for research strategies and reporting research results and quality improvement projects in hospital library settings, discussions of technological challenges and solutions, and articles on health care administration issues which have implications for hospital librarians such as managed care health care economics, hospital mergers, as well as patient safety and consumer health information. Columns coverage is: CHARTING CONSUMER HEALTH where librarians share programs, practices, or knowledge supporting consumer health in libraries REACH OUT THROUGH OUTREACH brings readers stories about unique ways hospital librarians step out of the library to reach all possible constituencies. OUTSIDE THE DROP BOX (formerly Specialty of the House) contains the stories and journeys of challenges, successes, innovative programs and services of hospital librarians in the 21st century. TechRX (formerly Technology) highlights challenges, solutions, and trends that impact the acquisition, implementation, and management of various technology-based tools and services in the hospital library. PATCHWORK provides practical solutions or developments related to the practice of hospital librarianship and covers tips, tricks and shorter topics that do not lend themselves to a full-length article. Any topic is suitable including service analysis and measurement, creative use of databases, taking on new roles, customer service, surveys, collaboration, marketing, or budgeting.
