Journal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface (JGRES)
Journal Descriptions
The Journal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface (JGR: Earth Surface) is a peer‑reviewed geoscience journal dedicated to advancing scientific understanding of the processes that shape the Earth’s outermost layer — the surface environment where solid Earth, fluid envelopes (water and air), and living systems interact. Established with its own ISSNs in 2013, the journal builds on decades of Journal of Geophysical Research research traditions to focus specifically on landscape dynamics and Earth surface processes. The journal publishes original research articles that employ field observations, laboratory experiments, remote sensing analyses, and numerical modeling to unravel how landscapes evolve over time. Typical topics include sediment transport by water and wind, coastal and river morphodynamics, landslide and debris flow mechanics, glacial erosion and deposition, soil development, weathering processes, tectonic and volcanic influences on topography, and surface system responses to environmental change. Its interdisciplinary approach integrates geomorphology, hydrology, sedimentology, climatology, and biogeochemistry to interpret Earth surface expression across diverse environments. As a quarterly journal published by Wiley for the American Geophysical Union, JGR: Earth Surface is indexed in major scientific databases and serves a global community of researchers, environmental scientists, and Earth system modelers whose work informs landscape evolution theory, natural hazard assessment, and sustainable management of terrestrial and coastal environments.
