Journal of Environmental Quality (JEQ)
Journal Descriptions
The Journal of Environmental Quality (JEQ) is an established peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to advancing knowledge and understanding of environmental quality and the processes that govern changes in natural and managed ecosystems. Since its launch in 1972, JEQ has published research exploring how human activities influence environmental systems — including soils, surface and groundwater quality, atmospheric chemistry, and the movement and fate of pollutants within landscapes. Over the years, its scope has expanded to encompass research on biogeochemical cycles, ecological restoration, contaminant transport models, landscape processes, and the interactions between organisms and environmental stressors. Originally a quarterly publication, JEQ became bimonthly in 1994, and currently operates on a continuous online publication model, ensuring rapid access to scientific findings. The journal’s interdisciplinary approach draws contributions from soil scientists, agronomists, environmental chemists, hydrologists, ecologists, and related researchers interested in addressing pressing environmental challenges. Notably, JEQ emphasizes studies with strong experimental design and a clear contribution to improving environmental quality, sustainability, and ecosystem function. By facilitating the dissemination of high-quality original research and review articles, JEQ serves as a valuable resource for scientists, policymakers, and environmental practitioners working to address complex issues such as pollution control, soil and water conservation, nutrient cycling, and sustainable land management.
