Journal of Cognitive Engineering and Decision Making (JCEDM)
Journal Descriptions
The Journal of Cognitive Engineering and Decision Making (JCEDM) is an international, peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated to advancing research on how humans engage in cognitive work and make decisions within complex systems and environments, and how this understanding can be applied to the design of systems, interfaces, technologies, procedures, training, and organizational processes that better support human performance. Established in 2007, the journal publishes rigorous original research, theoretical contributions, empirical studies, and methodological innovations that explore naturalistic decision making, cognitive task analysis, human–computer interaction, automation and trust, situational awareness, and cognitive aspects of teamwork and collaboration. Research in JCEDM spans laboratory simulations and ecologically valid field settings, addressing real-world problems in domains such as healthcare, aviation, defense, transportation, emergency response, and complex industrial systems. With a multidisciplinary orientation, contributions draw from applied psychology, human factors and ergonomics, engineering design, cognitive science, and decision science. The journal promotes integrative work that bridges cognitive theory with practical system design, advocating approaches that enhance safety, efficiency, usability, and human–system resilience. Its quarterly issues serve as a key resource for researchers, practitioners, and designers interested in cognitive mechanisms underlying decision processes and developing evidence-based solutions for enhancing human performance in cognitively demanding environments.
