Journal of Balkanology (JOB)
Journal Descriptions
The Journal of Balkanology (also known in German as Zeitschrift für Balkanologie) is a scholarly academic journal dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of the Balkan region. It focuses on linguistic, historical, cultural, and philological research related to Southeast Europe. The journal has traditionally served as a platform for academic discussions on Balkan languages, including Slavic, Greek, Albanian, and Romance language interactions, as well as cultural and historical developments in the region. Published primarily by Harrassowitz Verlag in Germany, the journal contributed significantly to Balkan studies during the second half of the 20th century. It featured research articles, linguistic analyses, historical studies, and ethnographic reports. The publication is especially valuable for understanding language contact phenomena and historical evolution within the Balkan linguistic area. Over time, publication frequency became irregular, and the journal is now primarily accessed through academic archives and library collections rather than as a regularly active periodical. Despite this, it remains an important reference source in Balkan studies and historical linguistics.
