Journal of Arabian Studies is the only journal focusing on the Arabian Peninsula, its surrounding waters, and their connections with the Western Indian Ocean (from West India to East Africa), from Antiquity to the present day. It covers a wide range of topics, in all disciplines in the social sciences and the humanities. It presents the results of new observations and original research, providing authoritative information in an accessible way to appeal to the general reader as well as the specialist. Journal of Arabian Studies follows in the footsteps of Arabian Studies (University of Cambridge, 1974–1990) and New Arabian Studies (University of Exeter, 1994–2004), although it breaks new ground by incorporating social science subjects and extending the journal’s scope to the present day. Journal of Arabian Studies welcomes submissions in anthropology, archaeology, architecture, Arabic literature, archives, cultural studies, economics, ethnography, gender studies, geopolitics, history (ancient to modern), human geography, Indian Ocean studies, international relations, Islamic studies, linguistics, literature, material culture, maritime culture, media studies, migration studies, political economy, political Islam, political science, security studies, socio-linguistics, sociology, travel literature, and urban studies. Please note: while the journal regards archaeology as indispensable to our ongoing efforts to better understand the Peninsula's past, it asks that archaeologists avoid technical fieldwork detail and write for an audience beyond archaeology. For submission details, see the Instructions for Authors tab. The journal follows the same transliteration system as IJMES.
