Journal of Applied Econometrics (JAE)
Journal Descriptions
The Journal of Applied Econometrics was first published in 1986 and has since become one of the foremost outlets for high-quality empirical research in the field of econometrics. Published seven times per year by John Wiley & Sons, it serves an international audience of economists, applied researchers, and policy analysts interested in the careful application of econometric techniques to substantive economic questions. The journal’s mission is to promote work that not only demonstrates methodological rigor but also addresses questions of real economic importance, such as the measurement of economic relationships, the testing of economic theories with data, forecasting economic variables, and evaluating economic policies. Contributions often span cross-sectional, time-series, and panel data analyses, incorporating innovations in estimation and inference that advance both econometric practice and economic understanding. A distinctive feature of the journal is its data-replication requirement: since 1994, authors have been asked to deposit full datasets (when non-confidential) to support replicability of empirical results, making the research more transparent and reproducible. Over the decades, the journal has published influential articles that shape empirical practice in labor economics, macroeconomics, finance, and other areas, emphasizing transferable methods and rigorous interpretation of results. Its editorial board comprises leading econometricians who uphold high standards of empirical and statistical quality, ensuring that the journal remains essential to both academic research and practical applications of econometrics.
